L’église est celle de l’abbaye des pères trappistes de Chimay. La communauté y est installée depuis 1850. L’église fait partie d’un ensemble de bâtiments dont l’hôtellerie et les habitations des pères. L’église a fait l’objet au cours des années de plusieurs remaniements et restaurations.
Aujourd’hui, elle présente une belle allure marquée par une absolue sobriété. L’intérieur invite au recueillement et à la prière. On a privilégié l’option d’un grand dépouillement cistercien. Très peu de statues. De hauts piliers et murs tout blancs. Stalles en chêne des moines qui se réunissent pour la prière 7 à 8 fois par jour, tournés vers le chœur dominé par un Christ en croix d’une grande simplicité. Belle résonance des chants liturgiques grâce à une acoustique particulière avec un très long écho.
Les visiteurs peuvent assister aux offices.
