Samsø è un'isola situata nel Kattegat e politicamente dipendente dalla Danimarca. Da un punto di vista amministrativo, l'isola costituisce un comune di 4.233 abitanti situato nella regione dello Jutland Centrale.Dal 1997 l'isola si è liberata dalla dipendenza dei combustibili fossili grazie ad un impianto offshore e in terraferma di pale eoliche e pannelli solari. Sull'isola è inoltre presente lo storico villaggio portuale di Ballen.
