Il Parco nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna è un parco nazionale istituito nel 1993, situato nell'Appennino tosco-romagnolo, lungo il confine delle regioni Emilia-Romagna e Toscana, a cavallo tra le province di Forlì-Cesena, Arezzo e Firenze.
Dal 23 settembre 1985 la R.N.I. di Sasso Fratino è insignita del Diploma delle Aree protette del Consiglio d'Europa 12 del 23.9.85), mentre il 7 luglio 2017, a Cracovia, la Commissione UNESCO ha inserito la Riserva naturale integrale di Sasso Fratino e le faggete vetuste ricomprese nel perimetro del parco, nel Patrimonio dell'umanità all'interno del sito seriale Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe.
