De dichter-sandalenmaker Melissinos kan terug vinden aan de rand van het nieuw Plaka: Spirri, meer bepaald aan de Aghias Teklas. De reden waarom hij zo beroemd geworden is, is omdat The Beatles bij hem hun sandalen kwamen kopen en ze ook lieten maken. Met dit soort heren als referentie op de klantenlijst besloot ook de organisatie van de Olympische Spelen van 2004 dat dit de persoon was om de sandalen te maken die gebruikt moesten worden bij de ceremonies van de Olympische Spelen. Voordien was zijn winkeltje nabij Monasteraki.
