As you enter the Kalverhekkenweg, you will see in front of you the tower of the Our Lady or Buitenkerk. This church is referred to as Buitenkerk by the people of Kampen. This name refers to the location of the church. The area that was incorporated into the city just before the middle of the 14th century lay downstream and outside the city wall and was called Buitenespel.
