The ‘Marollen’ is a very old neighbourhood in Brussels. It is located between the Courthouse en the South Station. The centre of the Neighbourhood is the ‘Kapellekerk’ and the ‘Vossenplein’, which are famous for their fleemarkets. The inhabitants of this neighbourhoud are called ‘les Marolliens’. In the Middleages, the neighbourhood was located just outside the walls (1st fortification walls). Outside these walls, near the ‘Hallepoort’ was a leprosarium. The nonary of ‘Maria Colentes’ was taking care of the leperds. The name changed from ‘Maria Colentes’ to ‘Maricollen’ to ‘Marollen’.
