The extreme south of the province of Hainaut and the far southeast of Namur is referred to as Thierache and Riezes. In fact, that area is the westernmost part of the Ardennes. It thus has all the characteristics of it: a rolling landscape with a mixture of sand and slate, heights reaching up to 400 m, a lot of forests, and little industry. Worth noting: the famous French river Oise has its sources in the Hainaut part of Thierache and Riezes.
