The Museum of Fine Arts of La Rochelle is located in the city of La Rochelle, in Charente Maritime. The building, which also houses the Museum of Art and History of La Rochelle, is listed as a historical monument by decree of February 23, 1925. This building was constructed in the early 17th century and was purchased in 1600 by Paul Legoux, treasurer of the house of Navarre. It occupies the site of a house, the "Grand-Logis" or "Palais-Royal," and hosted guests such as Maximilien de Béthune, Duke of Sully, Louis, the Great Condé, Louis XIII of France, and Anna of Spain. It was described as "the most beautiful house, the most suitable, and the best ventilated in the city."
