Takes its name from the French word islette: small island. The Islettes witnessed the passage of Louis XVI during his flight on June 21, 1791. It was at the exit of the Islettes that Drouet crossed paths with the postilion driving the royal carriage. The latter indicated to him that the king had not taken the road to Verdun but the one to Varennes, where he would be arrested. The faience factory of the Islettes was the jewel of all the Argonne faience workshops that can be discovered at the Chapel of Bois d'Epense, at the very site of the faience factory that once was.
