One of the main tasks of the train that used to run between Zoutleeuw and Tienen was the transportation of beets to the Tiense Sugar Refinery. The train also transported passengers, of course. Today, you can still enjoy the rural route of the former railway travelers, albeit by bicycle. Beets are still grown in this region, but they now reach their destination by truck or tractor.
