In Ver Assebroek, the history of the miraculous Madonna statue, which was thrown overboard by Dutch Protestant sailors in 1680 during a journey from the East Indies to the Netherlands, is depicted on the stained glass windows of the O.L.V. church. The statue followed the boat for some time until the concerned crew fished it out of the sea. In 1720, it took its current place.
