It is hard to imagine that the famous Cloth Halls in the market of Ypres were only completely rebuilt to their former glory in the 1960s. In World War I, the beautiful Gothic building was totally destroyed, just like almost the entire city. A visit to the museum (In Flanders Fields) is a must to understand something of the prolonged and senseless warfare in the 'Ypres Salient'.
