The Romanesque St. Walburga Church of Wéris dates back to the 11th century and is one of the oldest churches in the region, alongside the church of Tohogne. It was built in the Romanesque Maas architecture style. The square church tower is the oldest part. The church underwent numerous renovations in the 16th and 18th centuries and was restored in the 20th century. Saint Walburga is the patron saint of farmers, ... On the left in the corner of the photo is the Augustus stone: it was quarried in the early 20th century. At the blast furnaces in Liège, pudding stone blocks were then used as fire-resistant flooring. This stone was quarried for that purpose but never reached its destination: the outbreak of the war 1914-18 abruptly ended the quarrying of pudding stone. The residents of Wéris placed the pudding stone block on the grassy square behind the church in celebration of the first Stone Festival in August 1981.
