The Stompert is located, just like the Vlasakkers, on a ridge of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug that runs from east to west. It is an area with a lot of relief that was clearly influenced by the glaciers in the ice ages. They have pushed river sand in front of them and pushed it up here.
The highest natural point on the Stompert is 51 meters above sea level (source: Tangible Time, Cultural-historical atlas of the province of Utrecht).
There are a number of burial mounds in the area. The area was relatively high and therefore suitable for digging.
In 1882 the 'pumping station of water supply' was built on the Stompert with a water reservoir at the highest point in the area.
In 1949 it came under military administration. The area is still owned by the Ministry of Defense but has been freely accessible to the public since 1992.
