The Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier is a water barrier and is the largest part of the Delta Works. It is also a 9-kilometer long road connection between Schouwen-Duiveland and North Beveland. This water barrier contains large sluices that can be lowered during heavy storms, whether or not in combination with a spring tide, so that the high water cannot enter the Eastern Scheldt.
