The mill of Hoeke is a stone ground sailer, which was built in 1840 on a small, artificial hill. Not without reason, because there would have been a mill on this site from before 1500.
In 1936 the milling stopped. The mill became a protected monument in 1981 (at that time it was owned by the Belgian State), and came into the hands of the Flemish Community in 1999. In 2001, he signed a long-term lease agreement with Erfgoed Vlaanderen for the management of the mill.
In the meantime, in 1985, an earlier erroneous restoration had been rectified, and milling could be resumed. Since then, miller Filip Devoldere has been working in the mill every Sunday morning, and you can visit the various attics and buy artisanal flour and flour. A number of necessary stabilisation works are in the pipeline for the near future.
