The Pegasus Bridge was the first piece of Western Europe to be re-occupied by the Allies on the night of June 5-6, 1944. Nearby, 3 Horsa gliders landed. Onboard were 90 men from the 6th Airborne Division. The British took control of this strategic bridge over the Orne within 10 minutes. The café of the Gondrée family, located nearby, became the first liberated house in Europe.
