This characteristic monument is officially called mill De Groot. The predecessor of the current mill was a post mill and was built in 1605. Old maps show that there used to be as many as ten mills on the ramparts around the city. Except for this mill, all of them have vanished from the inner city.
The Piet family has been living in and managing the mill for many years (That's why the mill is also colloquially known as 'Piet's Mill').
