Castle Ter Kruisen in Vaarstraat in Kaprijke is surrounded by a rampart. It was an allodial estate built around 1550 at the request of Andries de Bavière. Over the following centuries, it changed hands to the families Hauweel and Isebrant. In 1751, it was sold to the Maelcamp family, who are still the owners today. It is built of brick with sparse use of sandstone. A stone in the gable carries the year 1628, the period in which the building was completed. In 2006, the entrance gate with fence was restored with the support of 'Monuments and Landscapes' and the 'Regional Landscape Meetjesland'.
