The bridge of Schoonbroek made the news five years ago when a remarkable bet was placed at the bar of café 't Stekske in Arendonk. 'I can ride up the bridge faster than you can ride down', declared a regular to his café owner. When the bet was carried out, he turned out to be right: the regular, who started from a standstill at the foot of the bridge on his racing bike, reached a speed of 48 km per hour at the top. The owner of 't Stekske didn't exceed 47.5 km per hour on the descent.
