Le Bosberg est un terme connu dans le monde du cyclisme. De nombreuses performances cyclistes spectaculaires y ont eu lieu, notamment lors des éditions précédentes du Tour des Flandres. Edwig Van Hooydonck y a effectué son attaque décisive en 1989 et en 1991 — selon la légende, exactement au même endroit, à côté du même lampadaire. Johan Museeuw a fait du duo Muur–Bosberg son terrain de jeu, avec le public qui devenait de plus en plus enthousiaste lorsqu'il arrivait en solitaire. En 1999, Museeuw et Van Petegem étaient en tête, tandis que Frank Vandenbroucke s'approchait spectaculairement sur la Muur de Geraardsbergen, colorant ainsi une finale mythique.
