Scheerwolde is nog eer relatief nieuw dorp, gesticht in 1952 en geopend door Koningin Juliana. Zij onthulde toen een gedenksteen, voorstellende een phoenix, op de muur van het toenmalige politiebureau. De phoenix is een vogel die, zoals men zegt herrijst uit haar as. Het is dan ook niet vreemd dat juist deze vogel symbool staat voor het huidige Scheerwolde. Ook Scheerwolde is al enkele malen opnieuw herrezen. Oorspronkelijk lag op deze plaats het oude 'Scaerwold'.
