Herzele Station

Herzele station is a railway station along line 89 in the municipality of Herzele. The station is part of the S-network around Brussels. In 1868, the railway connection between Denderleeuw and Kortrijk was established after the government granted a concession to a certain Isidore Neelemans five years earlier. The construction of the line and the stations was entrusted to the Société Belge de chemins de fer. The design of all stations on the line was identical and based on the station building in Westmeerbeek, which was built in 1863 on the Leuven-Herentals line. The station is simple with a high central section under a gable roof. Two lower side wings, also under a gable roof, flank the central part. The right wing has 3 bays, while the left wing has 2. In the right wing, the waiting room, including ticket office space, is located. The station master had his service apartment on the first floor. In 2006, the station came into the hands of the municipality after the latter concluded a 50-year lease agreement with the NMBS. The municipality wanted to improve the comfort of the commuter and also saw tourist potential in the project. This led to the restoration of the station building at the end of 2009.
