On the night of 19 November 1421, the name day of Saint Elisabeth, a disastrous south-westerly storm battered the coasts of Holland and Zeeland. Earlier, in 1404, and also later, in 1424, there are storms that are named after this saint, but none is as devastating as the St. Elizabeth's Flood of 1421. The storm has terrible consequences because the water between the islands of South Holland and Zeeland was pushed up. The current Biesbosch is still the reminder of this storm disaster.
