When Méliès (1861 - 1938) was filming in Paris, his camera jammed. After a minute, the camera started working again and he continued filming. When he reviewed the film, it seemed as if a bus suddenly turned into a carriage. Méliès applied this trick, and the first 'special effect' was born. Cinema Zuid shows some of his films with live piano accompaniment!
