The Moor's House

★ Nos. 52-76. Former almshouse known as "DE MOOR/ 1480". 1480: founded by Donaas De Moor and wife Adriana De Vos. 1562: depicted on the map of Marcus Gerards as low houses with a dormer. 1908: courtyard partially taken over by the adjacent almshouse Reyphins. 1960-1961: expansion of the single-room houses with one room on the garden side. 1997-1998: exterior painting. Thirteen low single cottages built according to a mirror image scheme, each with two bays under a gable roof (clay tiles), (fig. 276). Anchored brick white-painted Flemish facades made of brick. Renewed facade stones refer to the administrators, namely the Sint-Juliaansgesticht (four houses), the trades of carpenters, masons, and coopers (each three houses). Rectangular windows with chamfered reveals, recessed lintel, and round arch window. Basket arch niche. In each brick layer, pitched dormers, rectangular shutters generally placed in a round-arched niche, and exceptionally a Tudor-arched (no. 59). Basket arch door with chamfered reveals. Preserved beam layers and roof structure.
