Rivierenhof

The Rivierenhof is a provincial domain in the Antwerp district of Deurne, owned and managed by the Province of Antwerp. It covers an area of 132 hectares, making it the largest park in the city Antwerpen.De name that was once "'t Goed ter Rivieren" refers to the presence of the river Grote Schijn meandering through the park and the ponds that were created as a result, as well as to the nearby Herentalse Vaart. The domain was laid out in the 16th century as a country residence. From 1618 to 1773 it was owned by the Jesuits. On the domain there is still a memorial stone from 1735: the "Jesuit stone". This is a fragment of the former Ignatius Church in Antwerp, which was struck by lightning in 1718 and burned down. In 1773 the Jesuit order was dissolved.
