Hulsel is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The village is located in the Kempen region and is one of the eight beatitudes. On January 1, 2020, the village had 810 inhabitants and more than 270 homes.
The village of Hulsel is already known from the year 710 under the name Hulislaum. According to the Liber aureus, the town, together with Heopurdum, was a gift from Bertilindis to Willibrord, the abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Echternach. The church of Hulsel was founded as early as 1107 and is dedicated to Saint Clement. In that year, the goods belonged to the Saint-Trudo Abbey. The later Gothic church was in Protestant hands from 1648-1809 and was then returned to the Catholics. In 1888, this church was destroyed by fire and a new neo-Romanesque church was built that still exists today.
