Het pittoreske dorpje Vlassenbroek ligt aan de rand van het gelijknamige broekgebied (300 hectare). Buitendijks (= 'gelegen tussen de dijk en de Schelde') liggen schorren die erkend zijn als natuurreservaat. Ter hoogte van de kerk van Kastel vormt de Schelde een opvallende meander rond natuurreservaat 'De Cramp', gelegen aan de overkant.
