Deze zoetwaterschor (9 hectare) ontstond vanaf de 14de eeuw. Door het plaatsen van dijken en afzetting van slib werd het gebied in de loop van de eeuwen opgehoogd. Het niveau van de schor is opmerkelijk hoger dan de binnendijks (landzijde) gelegen gronden. Het gebruik voor akkerbouw en weiden stopte rond 1960, aangezien het Scheldewater bij vloed langs geulen kon binnendringen. De schor kreeg een natuurlijke begroeiing met overwegend wilgen en riet.
