A Woudrichem i fiumi Maas e Reno - qui chiamato Waal - si ricompongono, dopo essersi separati alla maestosa Doornenburg. I fiumi dettano in questo modo il tono, tanto che si parla della terra di Maas e Waal.
Le mura e i fossati, che furono costruiti nel 1580 a Woudrichem, sono ancora esattamente come allora. Qui si è tentati a fare una passeggiata sulle mura della città. Woudrichem era un tempo un prospero villaggio di pescatori. Nel XV secolo dovette cedere il passo a Gorinchem, che si trova leggermente più a nord. Nel piccolo porto si incontrano solo barche da diporto.
