Door dit bos loopt een belangrijke toevoerleiding van water. Langs die leiding werd in het kader van het natuurinrichtingsproject Biscopveld een strook gekapt voor heide- en graslandherstel. Voor de verspreiding van veel planten en dieren is het belangrijk dat de Eendenputten via corridors en stapstenen verbonden worden met andere heidegebieden, zoals het heideveldje in het provinciedomein langs de Bornebeek en het natuurreservaat de Gulke Putten. Alle ontbossingen werden gecompenseerd door bebossingen op een andere plaats in de Vagevuurbossen. Bovendien wordt ook extra bosuitbreiding gerealiseerd bovenop de boscompensaties omdat bosuitbreiding ook een belangrijke doelstelling is in dit gebied.
