The Hantes is a small river in the southwest of the province of Hainaut. It originates in Froidchapelle, briefly crosses the French border, and ultimately flows into the Samber in the Belgian Labuissière. Along its course, there are a number of interesting places. The most important town is undoubtedly Beaumont, which, as the name suggests, is situated on a 70 m high hill above the Hantes.
Where the Hantes re-enters Belgium, it goes under the 13-arch Pont Romain in Montignies-Saint-Christophe. This bridge, whose Roman origin is sometimes disputed, is located near the old Roman road Bavay-Trier. It forms a splendid whole with the nearby Ferme du Moulin.
