Route knugget of the week: What's the link between
Teething chickens, the Ghent Festival, Darwin, London, and Ushuaia?
One
of the great scientific discoveries of last year was the
gen-manipulation resulting in 'teething of chickens'. It was already
expected and predicted that the manipulation of genes of chickens could
result in 'chickens having teeth'. The evolution-theory of Darwin
predicts this because chickens are linked to reptiles. And they still
have hidden genes of their ancestor-reptiles. But to make those
characterisitcs appear was a great scientific achievement. And for those planning a strip to the famous Ghent Festival, starting on July 14, must have seen already the poster: the symbol of the festival this year is that same chicken!
The link to Darwin brings us to two famous places of Darwin: Londen and Ushaia. Darwin lived in Gower Street in Londen, from 1838-42, before he went to Down House in Kent. And he also visited with this boat the Beagle the area of Ushuaia .
