HiptriptipTrip-advice of the month |
|
The route we present this month is the motortour of The Western Highlands, of Christel Lemmens and Luc Van De Steene, made for Touring-Lannoo (see also De 28 mooiste motorroutes). Christel Lemmens and Luc Van De Steene created several motorroute books. When they were asked in a pressconference what their favourite route was of their last book "De 28 mooiste motorroutes" they pushed this route forward without any doubt. A nice idea if you don't have any plans yet for the coming spring. |

The group KSA Ter Straeten got itself in the spotlight of this month, because of their most origianl route they created: a tour from student flat to student flat (in Flemmish dialict this is called a 'kot'). Don't disturb the students too much when you pass by! |

Pytheas's choiceGlobespot of the month |
Set-up
Every month, we ask somebody here to be a modern Pytheas and tell us something about the most amazing place they have experienced, and explain why this is!
Globespot of the month: Nuria, de most beautiful valley of Catalonia
I think it was about 17 years ago when I first experienced the Nuriavalley in the Pyrenees of Catalonia. You can reach this valley only by train or hiking. The train, and as well the hiking-trip starts at Queralbs or at Ribes de Freser. In this hidden valley, you can find the church of The Virgin of Nuria , attracting a lot of pelgrims. Most of the people come here to enjoy nature and the beautiful landscape. From Nuria, you can climb a few mountains, of which one I reached the top myself: the Puigmal. This means it is not that hard to do, and it rewards you with breathtaking views. The only thing you need is as good set of hiking-shoes and to wake up-call early in the morning. During wintertime, you can also ski here, but the ski-slopes are not the best of the region. And if you take to long enjoying the walk, you can always sleep in the hotel, hostel or at the campinglot. According to my children, the hostel where you can prepare the table yourself, beats any luxury hotel. If you want to be alone, this is not the best place to come, because it is quite popular, but it is still a nice and quiet place, where we love to retrun to. For more information, check out www.valldenuria.com.
Here you can find the location and a walk through the area.
Pytheas of the month: Anne Baude
Anne Baude was born in Mariakerke (Belgium), went around Afrika, lost her hart to the Catalonian marathonrunner Jordi Guijarro, and lives at the Mediterranean Coast to the North of Barcelona with their three lovely children. As filologist, she is teaching the Catalan people the beautiful Dutch language.
Pytheas, the Greek was one of the great travellers during Greek-Roman times. He travelled to all corners of the then known world. Click here, to find out more about the The Extraordinary Voyage of Pytheas the Greek
Let us know about your most amazing globe-spot you have ever experienced! Or alternatively, convince somebody else to be Pytheas of the month and ask them to create a route around the globespot!

Searching information of locations you want to go to via Wikiseek
| Wikiseek is a new searchengine (still in beta-version) based on Wikipedia and the linked sites within Wikipedia. The first results look very promissing, if you are not interested in receiving thousands of links but you want more information in depth, as you are used to find in Wikipedia. RouteYou links already Wikipedia links to POIs along the routes. You can find these links in the text-window of the RouteViewer. RouteYou will investigate further the Wikiseek initiative to provide you more information about your routes. Give the Wikiseek a try, and type in a place of interest. |
