Drie generaties geleden in 1898 opende grootvader Bloch hier ooit een bakkerszaak. Tijdens de Wereldoorlogen moest de familie het land verlaten wegens hun Joodse afkomst. Tot tweemaal toe besloot grootmoeder toch te blijven om de zaak in de gaten te houden. Helaas werd de bakkerij tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog overgenomen door een collaborateur en werd mevrouw Bloch gedeporteerd. Ze zou nooit meer terugkeren. Haar zoon Jacques nam na 1945 de zaak over. Eigenlijk lagen zijn ambities ergens anders. Hij wou en zou scheikunde gaan studeren maar van het één kwam het ander. Uiteindelijk is hij in de patisseriekunde, zoals hij het zelf noemt beland. De familie is oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit de Elzas.
