Wanneer je over de met dennenappels bespikkelde bospaden richting de Lemelerberg wandelt, voel je aan je beenspieren dat je hoogte wint. De overgang van bos naar heide is abrupt, alsof je plotseling zo hoog zit dat je boven de boomgrens komt. In deze vlakte vind je nog talloze ijstijdsporen want de paden zijn vergeven van de kleine zwerfkeien. Onderweg passeer je ook een prachtige reusachtige zwerfkei, Dikke Steen genaamd.
