Strawberry Route

Hoogstraten is mostly located in the middle of the three hills that stand out on the Belgian map. It is therefore not surprising that the municipality experienced Dutch influence. The sub-municipalities Meer and Meerle used to belong to the land of Breda. Meerle was even founded from the Dutch Baarle.
During your ride on the strawberry route, you will get to know three of the four M-sub-municipalities of Hoogstraten: Meer, Meerle, and Meersel-Dreef. And then there is Minderhout, of which you only see a signpost. In the flat landscape around Hoogstraten, you cycle for a while along the gently babbling Mark. It is an ideal place for a picnic. Perhaps with a bowl of strawberries? Your bowl of strawberries probably comes from the Veiling Hoogstraten, one of the largest strawberry exchanges in the Benelux. Approximately 15,000 tons of strawberries are traded here annually. You can request tours through Tourism Hoogstraten.
