Beet Route

One of the main tasks of the train that used to run between Zoutleeuw and Tienen was the transportation of sugar beets to the Tiense sugar refinery. The train also naturally transported passengers. Today, you can still enjoy the rural route of the former train travelers, but now by bike. Sugar beets continue to be grown in this area, but they now reach their destination by truck or tractor. Here and there, it seems as if time has stood still, as with the historic Boswinning and the somewhat further away intimate church of Bos. Hopefully, it can remain like this for a while. And preferably forever!

SAFETY
Relatively safe route. Watch out at intersections.
Paved roads almost everywhere. 35% traffic-free.

RECOMMENDED STARTING POINT
In front of the Schotelbeemdstraat, a side street of Ambachtenlaan in Tienen. Ambachtenlaan is in turn a side street of Sint-Truidersteenweg, which leads from Tienen via Hakendover and Orsmaal (Linter) to Sint-Truiden.
