Description

This cycling route features several highlights of the Beaujolais region. We start in the middle of the Beaujolais Wine region, cycling through the undulating landscape of chateaux and vignes. After ca 20 km we leave the vineyards and start climbing to the Haut Beaujolais. This is really a low-mountain area with plenty of stuning views. The route takes you along several colls, often less steep and less high than in the Alps, but don't underestimate them! From the Haut Beaujolais we descend to the villegae Beaujeu, and from here on we ride again through the vineyards until we reach the starting point.

This route is based on some routes available by the depertment du Rhone, topographic map study and some improvisation. Routes from the departement du Rhone are currently not available as GPX files. Note that these routes are signposted, but some signposts appear to be missing, so bring a map if you decide to tackle one of them (or just ride this route).

My GPS indicated a total of 2275 ascending meters for this route, so bring suitable brackets :-)
