El Museu Guggenheim de Nova York és el primer dels museus creats per la Fundació Solomon R. Guggenheim, dedicada a l'art modern. Va ser fundat el 1937 a l'Upper East Side de Nova York. Al començament va ser anomenat Museu de Pintura No-objectiva, i va ser fundat per a exhibir art avantguardista d'artistes moderns primerencs com Kandinski i Mondrian.
El 1959 es va mudar al lloc on es troba actualment , quan es va completar l'edifici dissenyat per l'arquitecte Frank Lloyd Wright. Guggenheim no sabia a qui triar com a arquitecte pel museu, i per això va demanar a la baronessa Hilla von Rebay que escollís algú. Ella va triar Wright perquè era l'arquitecte més famós del moment. L'edifici en si mateix es va convertir en una obra d'art.
