Die heutige Basilika – sie trägt diese Bezeichnung seit 1950 – wurde zwischen dem 13. und 15. Jahrhundert im gotischen Stil erbaut. Die im 19. Jahrhundert starkrestaurierte Kirche ist dank der Statue Unserer Lieben Frau von Walcourt (um das Jahr 1000) ein Zentrum der Marienverehrung. Im Inneren der Kirche gibt es noch einen hervorragenden Lettner im spätgotischen Stil, der nach Karl V. benannt ist (1531). Der Chor besitzt außerdem ein schönes Chorgestühl mit vierzig Plätzen (erstes Viertel des 16. Jahrhunderts).
