Das Landschaftsbild ist sehr vielfältig: Waldgebiete und Mittelgebirge an der Ostküste, Mangrovenwälder im subtropischen Florida, die Flusssysteme von Mississippi River und Missouri River, die weiten Ebenen im Zentrum des Landes, der große Gebirgszug der Rocky Mountains, die trockenen Wüsten im Südwesten, die gemäßigten Regenwälder im Nordwesten und die Küstengebirge an der Westküste.
