It Damshûs Open-Air Museum
The museum allows visitors to experience in a lively and active way how peat was made and how the peat workers lived and worked in the period from 1863 to about 1920. Their appalling conditions of work, living and living were the breeding ground for a fierce social struggle.
In addition, an impression is given of the change in the landscape as a result of peat extraction. In this way, the visitor gets an overall picture of the socio-economic, political and landscape history of the low bog farming in Opsterland and Smallingerland, with Nij Beets as the starting point.
