La colonne qui figure sur les armoiries de Cologny et qui leur donne le caractère d'armes parlantes, rappelle celle du Port Noir où débarquèrent les Suisses le 1er juin 1814. Leur description héraldique est : "porte: d'azur à la colonne d'argent, le fût chargé de la date 1814 de sable, posée sur une champagne d'argent."
Ces armoiries ont été adoptées par le Conseil municipal de la commune de Cologny le 4 avril 1922.
