Ethel Mary Smyth, née à Sidcup en Londres le 22 avril 1858 et morte à Woking le 8 mai 1944, est une compositrice et suffragette britannique.
Née d'une mère française et d'un père général britannique, elle grandit dans une famille de huit enfants près d'Aldershot. À l'âge de douze ans, elle décide de devenir compositrice. Malgré le refus de ses parents, elle parvient en 1877 à rejoindre l'école de musique de Leipzig .
