La bataille de Gettysburg se déroule du 1er au 3 juillet 1863 à Gettysburg pendant la guerre de Sécession. Cette bataille, la plus lourde de la guerre quant aux pertes humaines, se conclut par la défaite des sudistes qui laissent le terrain aux nordistes. Elle est souvent considérée comme le principal tournant de la guerre.
Elle marque l'échec de l'offensive de l'armée de Virginie du Nord, commandée par le général Lee, face à l'armée du Potomac du général Meade et met fin à l'invasion des États nordistes par les troupes sudistes.
