Southern Airways-vlucht 242 was een vliegtuig van het type DC-9-31, dat op 4 april 1977 een noodlanding moest maken op een snelweg bij New Hope omdat alle motoren waren uitgevallen als gevolg van een onweersbui.
Ten tijde van het ongeluk was het vliegtuig op weg van Huntsville naar Atlanta. In totaal kwamen 70 mensen om bij de ramp, waarvan 62 inzittenden van het vliegtuig en acht mensen op de grond. 22 mensen overleefden de crash, waaronder de twee stewardessen. Een passagier had de ramp aanvankelijk overleefd, maar stierf een maand later aan de gevolgen.
