El castell de Foixà, origen del municipi del mateix nom, va ser construït segurament a la segona meitat del segle xiii, que és quan està documentat per primera vegada. Fou modificat al segle xvi i, posteriorment, als segles xviii i xix. El turó on s'aixeca el castell, que sembla que va ser allargat artificialment per alçar-hi la muralla, és una talaia magnífica des de la qual es dominen gairebé totes les terres de l'antic comtat d'Empúries.
