Die Hügelgräber von Omal liegen entlang der Römerstraße von Bavay nach Köln, vier nördlich, eines südlich.
Diese Grabmale aus Erde mit einer Höhe von vier bis fünf Metern wurden ab dem Ende des 1. bis zum Anfang des 3. Jahrhunderts von Vertretern der ländlichen gallo-romanischen Elite errichtet.
Die drei gefundenen Grabstätten enthielten die Asche der Toten und persönliche Objekte: Das Grab eines Mannes enthielt ein Schwert mit Griff und Scheide aus Elfenbein und verschiedene Gefäße.
Im Grab einer Frau fanden sich Perlen und Geschirr aus Glas und Bronze.
Mit Omalier bezeichnet man auch eine der ältesten Gruppen sesshafter Bauern und Viehzüchter in unserer Gegend.
